Starting this year Marlboro has changed the names of some fo their cigarettes they sell including Marlboro Lights. It was determined that by calling a type of cigarette Marlboro Lights or Ultra-Light, insenuated that they are not as toxic or is less of a health risk as regular cigarettes. This change is being made as part of a lawsuit that the cigarette companies have been fighting with the government for a long time. So now the Marbolo Lights are call Marlboro Gold because that is the color of the package it comes in.
Even people who don’t smoke or smoke another brand, recgonize the Marlboro packages. Even if they call Marlboro Lights Marlboro Gold the color code is already known. All brands of cigarettes use the same color code. Red is regular, Green is Menthol, Gold is Lights, and Silver is Ulra-Lights. People who smoke Marlboros say that the tobacco has a better flavor than other brands of cigarettes.To other people they say are too strong, even the Marlboro Lights, or what they are calling Golds now. It is the additional ingredients and chemicals that make them taste different.
Marlboro is one of the oldest cigarettes in the world. It is the most recgonizable package also. There are older advertisements that people still recgonize as soon as a person sees them, like the Marlboro Man. This campaign was run to try to get more men to smoke the filtered cigarettes that were advertised as a woman’s cigarette until that point. This campaign was suppose to attract men to their filtered cigarettes. The Marlboro Man was suppose to get men to smoke them because the filter made them safer and the chances of getting Lung Cancer wasn’t as likely. The irony is the Marlboro Man died of Lung Cancer.
